Description
Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. By providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles, we've helped over 2.5 million people understand and improve their health.
For us, empowering the world starts with living
our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we work to promote work-life balance and ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our US-based Partner Squad within the Ecosystem Mission. The Partner Squad is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Oura’s
partnership integrations. The ideal candidate wants to understand our users and listen to their needs, proactively advocates for technical investments, and is passionate about delivering quality code. We strongly value a proactive attitude and end-to-end ownership: taking a rough idea, working with others to turn it into a concrete feature or product, deploying it, and monitoring its usage to make sure it solves the intended needs.
Because so much of our work is done together with other team members, empathy and excellent communication skills are very strongly valued at Oura.
You will:
- Contribute to products that improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe.
- Design, develop, and maintain backend infrastructure to support public API integrations, enhance partner integration capabilities, and ensure robust data infrastructure for all Partnership and Enterprise solutions within the Ecosystem Mission
- Proactively work through ambiguously defined problems, reducing their complexity into clear, simple, and actionable solutions with stakeholder alignment
- Have pride and ownership of your work through high quality solutions from conceptualization, production, monitoring, and documentation
- Ensure solutions adhere to the latest security, data privacy, and compliance regulations
- Push for architectural improvements that will allow us to scale, maintain existing infrastructure, and build new types of products.
- Demonstrate up-to-date expertise in software engineering and apply this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans
- Be comfortable working with a diverse and talented group of team members residing throughout the globe
- Have the ability to move to different roles across the company as Oura grows and new opportunities open up.
Some of the technologies we use:
- Python (server side language), FastAPI, Typescript (infrastructure templating), SQL
- AWS, infrastructure templating via CDK, as well as S3, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, and EventBridge services
- Docker + Kubernetes
- PostgreSQL
- GitHub Actions + Sentry
Requirements
We would love to have you on our team if you have any of the following, but don’t worry too much if you don’t fill all the requirements:
- Have 5+ years of practical backend development work experience with Python
- Have architected, built, and deployed scalable, performant web services in production on AWS or similar platforms, and can apply architectural patterns and best practices to new and existing products
- Write code that is highly maintainable, extensible, well-tested, and easy-to-understand
- Have an affinity for automating busywork and diving into the details to fix problems at the root
- Have a pragmatic entrepreneurial attitude and delivery-focused mindset: you understand tradeoffs between short-term goals and long-term tech debt and focus on delivering what’s most important
- Have a team-oriented mindset and enjoy working in a diverse environment with distributed teams
Nice to haves:
- Experience with Python web server frameworks, such as FastAPI
- Experience working within a HIPAA environment
- Experience in deploying infrastructure to different environments
- Experience in building efficient, scalable database schemas and/or query optimization

These ranges may be modified in the future.
